Day 2 Beijing, Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Jingshan Park, Temple of Heaven
Explore Beijing from the world’s largest public square, Tiananmen Square. No visit to Beijing would be complete without a walk through the square, whose historical legacy includes Mao Zedong’s announcement of the founding of the People’s Republic of China on October 1, 1949. Walk to the Forbidden City from Tiananmen Square. Home to 24 Ming & Qing Dynasty emperors, the Forbidden City is the world’s largest palace complex located in the center of Beijing. Then walk to Jingshan Park behind the Forbidden City which affords excellent views of the Forbidden City and surrounding neighborhoods of Beijing. Visit the Temple of Heaven in the afternoon. The Temple of Heaven, built between 1406 and 1420 by the same emperor who was responsible for building the Forbidden City, is where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties would worship the god of heaven and pray for good harvest.

Day 3 Beijing, Mutianyu Great Wall, Dingling Tomb, Photo Stop at Bird's Nest & Water Cube
Drive out of Beijing to Mutianyu Great Wall of China (approximately 80 km). The Great Wall is one of China's most iconic sights. Mutianyu Great Wall is the longest fully resorted section of the Great Wall measuring 2.2km with 23 watchtowers. Considered to be the most family-friendly portion of the Wall and the best part of Great Wall for photography, Mutianyu Great Wall is less crowded and has better architecture than other sections with more watchtowers. Visit the only excavated Ming Tomb, Dingling Tomb in the afternoon. Constructed for the 13 emperors of the Ming Dynasty, the Ming tombs follow the precepts of traditional Chinese geomancy and fengshui theory. They feature rich decoration of stone statues and carvings and tiles with dragon motifs, illustrating the development of the funerary architecture of the Ming Dynasty. On the way back to your hotel, make a photo stop at two architectural icons from the 2008 Olympic that are still standing: Bird’s Nest and Water Cube.

Meals Included: Breakfast at hotel
Hotel: 4-star Pentahotel Beijing or similar

Day 4 Beijing, Summer Palace, Beijing Zoo, Lama Temple, Hutongs
Morning visit to Summer Palace, the largest and best preserved royal garden in China. Commissioned by Emperor Qianlong in 1750 with hillside temples and pagodas, arched stone bridges on Kunming Lake, the Summer Palace offers a glimpse at how the imperial family once spent their leisure time. Continue to Beijing Zoo to see the lovely pandas eating bamboos, playing or sleeping. Proceed to the Lama Temple in the afternoon. Originally built as a temple for Prince Yongzheng, who went on to become the third Qing Dynasty Emperor, Lama Temple is one of the most important functioning Tibetan Buddhist temples in Beijing. Afterwards, experience a rickshaw ride through Beijing's winding Hutongs to get a glimpse of the city's past as well as an intimate glance at local life.

This was the perfect tour for us! We spent 5 active days in Beijing with our guide Chen and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. For the limited time we had, it allowed us to see the major sites. Chen and her driver knew the best drop off and pick up locations and manuveured the entrances with ease and no waste of time. At each site and while in the car, Chen gave very thorough and interesting explanations providing information we could never have received on our own or with an audio tour. We saw all the major sites with ease. We felt the tour was a good value for the experiences we had. Chen was professional and personable throughout the 5 days. We'd highly recommend this tour to anyone coming to Beijing!

Oliver was a great tour guide! He really knows a lot about the sites that we went to - especially Summer Palace, Lama Temple and Hutong of Beijing, and it was easy to tell what the favorite parts of each stop were. It was really nice to be on a tour and not feel pressured to buy anything from the street vendors. I would really recommend this tour, and tour company, to anyone coming to Beijing - the guides are knowledgeable and their English is excellent, the drivers are reliable and quick, and it really is a nice, relaxing way to see the city and learn about China's history.
