Xinghai Square is a landmark of Dalian. Spanning 176 hectares, Xinghai Square is renowned as one of the largest city squares in the world, approximately four times the size of Tiananmen Square. Built to celebrate Dalian’s centennial in 1999, the grand square unfolds around a massive central plaza. The plaza’s vast expanse is formed of intricately carved granite, bordered by lush lawns and colorful flowerbeds, and dotted with modern sculptures.
Among the square’s highlights are the magnificent centennial city sculpture, a towering testament to Dalian’s rich history, and the mesmerizing musical fountain. In the evening, the fountain’s choreographed jets of water dance to illuminated melodies, creating a dazzling spectacle. Overlooking the azure expanse of Xinghai Bay, the square serves as a vibrant hub for both locals and tourists, offering breathtaking coastal vistas and hosting a diverse array of events throughout the year.

Xinghai Square is an ideal place to immerse yourself in the beautiful landscape and lively atmosphere. With the gentle lapping of waves, seagulls overhead, and colorful kites dancing in the breeze, every moment is picture-perfect.
Dazzling Musical Fountain
The Xinghai Square fountain display is a mesmerizing spectacle, featuring a 140-meter (460 ft) diameter ring of fountains. These fountains include static jets, geysers, film sprays, fan shapes, rotating streams, and pulsating jets, reaching a maximum height of 88 meters (289 ft). Every night from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the fountains perform a choreographed show synchronized to music and illuminated by vibrant LED lights, a truly breathtaking display.
Intricate Sculpture Groups
A prominent landmark in the square is the Centennial City Sculpture, a large granite structure resembling an open book. It symbolizes the city’s dedication to knowledge and progress. Another significant piece is an 80-meter-long (262 ft) floor sculpture featuring almost 1,000 bronze footprints. These footprints represent people of all ages and professions, symbolizing the progress of the people of Dalian over the past century. Forty sculptures representing various competitive sports are installed along the square’s perimeter, further enhancing the atmosphere of dynamism.
