Visit Hunan Provincial Museum
Hunan Provincial Museum is the largest history and art museum in Hunan Province. It has a collection of more than 180,000 objects, including items found in the world-famous Mawangdui Tombs of Han Dynasty. The excavation of the three Western Han Dynasty Tombs at Mawangdui near Changsha, which took place between 1972 and 1974, was one of the world’s most important archaeological discoveries of the 20th century. Over 700 exquisite lacquer items with intricate workmanship reflect the brilliant accomplishments of Han Dynasty lacquerware, and over 500 exquisite textile garments fully attest to the “Kingdom of Silk” (Seres) in the Western historical records. More than 50 bamboo slips and silk manuscripts serve as “encyclopedias”, demonstrating the knowledge and wisdom of the ancient sages. Strange and bizarre coffin paintings embody the fantasies of people in the Han Dynasty ascending to the heavens and longing for external life, while the dreamlike face of a deceased woman is a testament to extraordinary preservation techniques. The Mawangdui Han Dynasty Tombs are renowned as the exemplar of the history and civilization in the early Han Dynasty, providing a window to understand society in China over 2,100 years ago.
Visit Orange Island Park
The Orange Island is an isle located in the millde of Xiangjiang River, a place with the scenery of "snow on the river", one of the eight sceneries of ancient Changsha. Historically known for its orange trees, a statue of Mao Zedong's head dominates much of the Orange Island. Fruit trees are still cultivated in the middle of the island. A number of viewing pavilions allow for the observation of the river as it runs by, while two beaches provide a good amount of space for relaxation and recreation.
Enjoy a wonderful stroll in the park and marvel at the massive sculpture of the head of "Young" Mao Zedong.

Visit Mount Yuelu
Mount Yuelu is located on the west bank of the Xiangjiang River. Its main peak and the highest point, Yunlu Peak, is about 300.8-metre (987 ft) above the sea level. Mount Yuelu is noted for its many scenic spots, including Qingfeng Gorge, Aiwan Pavilion, Lushan Temple, Yunlu Palace, the White Crane Spring and the Flying Stone. Qingfeng Gorge lies in the low area between Yuelu Academy and Lushan Temple. It holds Aiwan Pavilion, one of four famous pavilions in ancient China. Lushan Temple was built in A.D.268 and later destroyed and rebuilt several times. Yunlu Palace is a Taoist place built in A.D.1478. The Flying Clock and Flying Stone are also famous attractions in Mount Yuelu. The Flying Clock hangs in a ginkgo tree near Yunlu Palace. Flying Stone lies under the Flying Clock.
Visit Yuelu Academy
As one of the four most prestigious academies over the last 1000 years in China, Yuelu Academy has been a famous institution of higher learning as well as a centre of academic activities and cultures since it was formally set up in 976, during the Northern Song dynasty. The academy was converted from a school of traditional Confucian learning to an institute of higher learning in 1903. It was later renamed Hunan Normal College, Hunan Public Polytechnic School, and in 1926, it was officially named Hunan University.
