Visit Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum
Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum is situated at the foot of the second peak of Purple Mountain to the east of Nanjing. Nanjing was where Sun Yat-Sen, first proclaimed the Republic of China in 1911 and where the government had moved from Beijing in the late 1920's. Considered to be the "Father of Modern China", Sun Yat-sen fought against the imperial Qing government and after the 1911 revolution ended the monarchy, and founded the Republic of China. The mausoleum's layout is very similar to the tombs of Chinese emperors and has interesting contrasts and similarities with Xiaoling Tomb of Ming Dynasty, which is found about a half mile to the west on the same side of Purple Mountain.

Visit Meiling Palace
The Meiling Palace was once the home of China’s former president Chiang Kai-shek and his wife Soong Mayling before they fled to Taiwan in 1949 at the end of the Chinese civil war. Meiling Palace was built in 1934 as a birthday gift by Chiang Kai-shek (President of China) for his wife Soong Mayling who was named by Life magazine in 1937 as 'the most powerful woman in the world'). Once considered the No. 1 Mansion in the Far East, this beautiful villa combines classical Chinese architecture with modern western elements. For decades, the building was kept as a state guesthouse and closed to the public until 2013, when the villa was renovated and its doors thrown open to the public. From the air, Meiling Palace resembles a giant emerald and the landscaping around it looks like a pendant and necklace. It is now a museum showing Soong Maying’s life as a politician, a diplomat and an artist as well as stories about this grand villa.

Visit Presidential Palace
The site of Presidential Palace have been used as for provincial government buildings during the Qing Dynasty, the Celestial Palace during Taiping Rebellion period, the Office of the President of the Republic of China before the republic relocated to Taiwan in 1949. Presidential Palace is one of the largest surviving complex of modern Chinese (1840-1949) buildings. It mainly consists of the central axis, the west garden and the east garden. The current structures were mainly built between 1870 and 1930s. In the late 1980s, the palace was converted into the China Modern History Museum, a museum exclusively dedicated to China’s history from the 20th century onwards. The exhibitions place particular emphasis on the establishment of the Republic of China (1912-1949) and the beginning of the People’s Republic of China. Nowadays it is one of the few places in mainland China where the flag of the Republic of China can be legally displayed. Walk the same corridors of power that were trodden by Chinese political luminaries such as Sun Yat-Sen and Chiang Kai Shek, look into the same meeting rooms where they held fort all those years ago, and enjoy gardens and ponds within the walls of the compound.

Visit Memorial of the Nanjing Massacre
Built near a site where thousands of bodies were buried, called a "pit of ten thousand corpses" in 1985 and then enlarged and renovated in 1995, the Memorial of the Nanjing Massacre is a museum to memorialize those that were killed in the Nanjing Massacre by the Imperial Japanese Army in and around Nanjing. On December 13, 1937, the Japanese Army occupied Nanjing (then spelt Nanking) – then the capital city of the Republic of China. During the first six to eight weeks of their occupation, the Japanese Army committed numerous atrocities, including rape, arson, looting, mass executions, and torture. China estimates that approximately three hundred thousand civilians and unarmed soldiers were brutally slaughtered. The memorial exhibits historical records and objects, and uses architecture, sculptures, and videos to illustrate what happened during the Nanjing Massacre.
