What to expect at Yadan National Geological Park

Yadan National Geological Park boasts a diverse array of geological relics, totaling 77 sites. In the park, visitors can observe uniquely-shaped rocks such as Mongolian Bao, Stone Bird, Peacock, and more. With a touch of imagination, one may even discover rocks resembling miniature versions of famous landmarks like the Potala Palace in Tibet or the Temple of Heaven in Beijing.

Yadan Ghost Town

One of the most remarkable sites in the Yadan National Geological park is the Yardan Ghost Town. Stretching approximately 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) from east to west and 2 kilometers (1.24 miles) from north to south, this unique "castle" resembles a medieval fortress with intricately crafted walls, streets, buildings, squares, churches, and sculptures, all astonishingly lifelike.

Yardan Ghost Town is renowned for its expansive Yadan Landforms, characterized by intricate sandstone formations sculpted by centuries of wind erosion. These unique geological features stretch across vast plains, creating an otherworldly landscape that captivates visitors with its surreal beauty. However, what truly sets Yardan Ghost Town apart is the eerie atmosphere that envelops the area when the wind whispers through the sandstone canyons and across the barren plains. (According to local legend, the once-prosperous town fell into ruin due to greed and malevolence despite warnings from a disguised god, resulting in its destruction and the entrapment of souls who lament their fate nightly, seeking redemption.) This haunting ambiance adds a layer of mystique to the already mesmerizing scenery, creating an unforgettable experience for those who venture into this remote desert wilderness.
