The cave complex boasts 22 caves(9 are open to explore) adorned with an impressive collection of over 800 square meters of meticulously preserved murals, as well as 34 intricate polychromed sculptures. Spanning centuries from the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534) to Ming (1368-1644) Dynasty, this site offers visitors a captivating exploration of Chinese history and artistry, with each cavern serving as a window into a different era, showcasing the diverse cultural and artistic influences that shaped these periods. 

Exquisite Polychromed Sculptures
The polychromed sculptures within the caves animate celestial beings, deities, and historical figures through intricate details and vibrant colors. Each sculpture evokes a sense of life, eliciting various emotions and encouraging contemplation of their spiritual and mythological significance. 

Particularly remarkable is the Buddha sculpture situated in the central niche in Cave No. 5. Despite damage to its head and visible signs of wear on the knees and chest, the sculpture maintains its exquisite craftsmanship and graceful form. It radiates an elegant and dignified aura, characteristic of refined and solemn depictions, marking it a remarkable masterpiece of the Wei Dynasty (386-534).

Classified into seven distinct categories, including Buddhist Images, Narratives of Buddhist Stories, Historical Accounts of Buddhist Events, Narratives from the Sutra (Jingbian), Decorative Patterns and Caisson, Apsaras (The Flying Celestials), and Donor Portraits, each category acts as a window into the depth and breadth of Buddhist spirituality and history.
