Haihe River

Covering a catchment area of 317,800 sq kilometers (122,800 sq miles), the Haihe River is regarded as the 'mother river' of Tianjin. It is a great contributor to the improvement of Tianjin, and ties closely to the lives of Tianjin people living there for generations. People visiting the Haihe River today appreciate its scenic beauty as well as its historical and cultural atmosphere. The Haihe River is a crucial river in North China formed by the convergence of five rivers in Tianjin. Historically, the Haihe River was open to navigation 1,800 years ago, and gradually became a junction for navigation in the Sui Dynasty (581-618). Through centuries of development, it became a trading center gathering a great influx of businessmen from around the nation. Today the former shipping center is a place for relaxation.

What to expect at Haihe River

Regions along the river present beautiful views starting from Sanchakou (a fork in the river) to Daguangming Bridge (one of the bridges over the Haihe River). Countless attractions along the banks make the river a popular holiday destination.

Tianjin Tower
The Tianjin Tower, or Jin Tower or Tianjin World Financial Center is a modern supertall skyscraper located on the banks of the Hai River. The mixed-use tower is 336.9 meters (1,105 ft) tall and contains 74 floors above ground and 4 below, with an observation deck at 305.2 meters (1,001 ft). It is notable as the first office building in Tianjin to be equipped with double decker elevators.

Tianjin Eye
Tianjin Eye, also called as The Tientsin Eye, is a 120-meter (394 ft)-tall giant ferris wheel built above the Yongle Bridge (formerly Chihai Bridge), over the Hai River in Tianjin. It is electrically powered and has 48 passenger capsules, each able to carry 8 passengers, and takes 30 minutes to complete a rotation, giving a maximum capacity of 768 passengers per hour.

How to get to Haihe River
• The core scenic area of Haihe River is located in downtown Tianjin, near Jinwan Square and the Italian Style Street, which is very convenient to reach by metro or bus.
• Haihe River can be reached by bus 95, 97, 623, 760 and Toulist Line 3.
