Overhanging Great Wall

Introducing Overhanging Great Wall (from Chinaculture.org)
Overhanging Great Wall, or Xuanbi Changcheng in Chinese, is located about 6.5 kilometers northwest of the famed Jiayuguan Fort. It was built as an extension of Jiayuguan Fortress and its original length used to be 1.5 kilometers, but a large part of the wall has been damaged with only 750 meters surviving up to date.

What to expect at Overhanging Great Wall
The Overhanging Great Wall is believed to have been first constructed in 1539 during the Ming Dynasty. Using yellow earth and local gravel, the wall was built painstakingly layer by layer. Supposedly, when viewed from afar, the wall looks like it is hanging over the mountain tops, giving it the name Overhanging Great Wall. With a steep ascent over 400 steps, the stunning snow-covered Qilian mountains, the vast open desert, and the factories of modern day China can be seen in the distance. From the top, you can see another restored branch of the wall, not open to tourists, as well as the stunning snow-covered Qilian mountains, the vast open desert, and the factories of modern day China in the distance.
