Know Before You Go

Day 1 Arrival in Xishuangbanna, Xishuangbanna Airport Pickup
Meet your guide at Xishuangbanna airport or train stations and transfer to your hotel in a comfortable private vehicle. After getting settled at the hotel, you may explore Xishuangbanna on your own. Xishuangbanna is located in the southernmost tip of China and bordered Laos and Myanmar. Xishuang means twelve while Banna means region in local Dai language, Xishuangbanna means twelve administrative regions. Foremost of the region’s many ethnic groups are the Dai, northern cousins to the Thais, whose distinctive temples, bulbous pagodas and saffron-robed clergy are a common sight in Xishuangbanna. Other ethnic groups include Hani, Bulang, Jinuo, Wa and Lahu. Xishuangbanna is famous for its tropical rain forest natural landscape. The only tropical rainforest nature reserve in China is located in Xishuangbanna.

Day 2 Ganlanba Dai Minority Park, Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden
Drive out of Jinghong along the Mekong River to visit Ganlanba Dai Ethnic Village (approximately 30km). Meaning olive plain, the name of Ganlanba derives form the olive-shaped land covered with a dense forest. Visit morning market in the village, then stroll around Ganlanba Dai Minority Park to experience the culture and Dai people’s daily life. Enjoy the “the Oriental Carnival” in Water-splashing Square, and pay visits to five Dai villages - Manjiang, Manchunman, Manting, Manzha and Manga. View bamboo houses, Buddhist temple, gold pagoda, white pagoda, drum tower and special musical instruments. Next, visit Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden to find out the reason why Xishuangbanna is called the Kingdom of Plants. Founded in 1959, Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden is the largest tropical garden in China. The botanical garden's excellent preservation of over 13,000 species of plants in its 38 living collections has enhanced its reputation for being one of the most diverse botanical gardens for outdoor plants in the world.

Day 3 Xishuangbanna Wild Elephant Valley, Jinuo Mountain Village
Drive out of Jinghong to Xishuangbanna Wild Elephant Valley (approximately 33km). This Wild Elephant Valley is only habitat of Asian Elephants that visitors can get a close look. Currently 300 Asian elephants are living in the original forest of Xishuangbanna. They are international elephants and have their own passage between China and Laos. The valley is also the place for wild animals such as monkeys, wild buffalos, slowworm, butterfly, gibbon, sloth, hornbills, peacocks, macaque, etc. Walking into this dense forest and watch the tamed elephants making a bow, greeting, dancing, playing and bathing. Take a 2km cable car running over the tree tops from the main entrance into the heart of the park to observe the wild Asian elephants and other animals. Next, visit Jinuo Mountain Village. Jinuo Mountain Village is set on Jinuo Mountain surrounded by tropical forests where over 20,900 Jinuo people live in bamboo buildings hidden among green leaves. The Jino are one of the less numerous of the recognized minorities in China and the last one included as "national minority" because they were only recognized in 1979.

Day 4 Nannuo Mountain (Hani Village & Pu'er Tea Plantation), Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion
Drive out of Jinghong to Nannuo Mountain (approximately 40km) inhabited by ethnic Hani people. Well-known for its long history of tea cultivation, Nannuo Mountain produces some of the best Pu'er tea in Yunnan province. Ancient forests of tea trees dot the mountains and almost all of the new bushes cultivated and harvested by locals are cuttings from the nearby ancients. Among many of the tea trees aged between 200 and 500 years, the 800 years-old King of the Tea Trees soars to a height of nearly 15 meters. Next, visit Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion. Originally built in 1701, Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion is a fusion of Southeast Asian and traditional Chinese architecture. It is a place where the senior Buddhist monks give lectures on Buddhist sutra. The paintings on the wall of the temple depict scenes from the Jatatka, the life history of Buddha.
