Introducing Residence of Princess Heshuo Kejing
Residence of Princess Heshuo Kejing is now a museum located in Hohhot City. Residence of Princess Heshuo Kejing is the only well-preserved princess’s residence in China.

Constructed in 1705 AD, the residence was built for the sixth daughter of Emperor Kangxi (1654-1722 AD), Kejing, who married Mongolian Prince Дондовдорж (Dondovdorj). The total area of the site is 18,000 square meters (4.44 acres), with an exhibition area of 1,500 square meters (0.37 acres) exhibiting the residence.

The residence showcases a traditional Chinese central-axis symmetrical design, reflecting the artistic influences of royal garden landscaping while subtly integrating aspects of northern grassland customs. Currently serving as a museum, the estate comprises main halls, exhibition rooms, and side rooms, along with a horse ranch and a meticulously designed garden. Each of the main structures is elevated on high bases crafted from white marble,  creating a striking visual appeal that captivates visitors.

History of Residence of Princess Heshuo Kejing
During the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), the emperors adopted a policy of maintaining close relations with Mongolia through “political marriages,” a highly effective strategy of appeasement. These matrimonial alliances played a crucial role in fostering long-term peace between the two nations and in the Qing’s governance of the Mongolian frontier. Among the twelve emperors of the Qing Dynasty, all except Tongzhi, Guangxu, and Xuantong—who had no female descendants—married their daughters to Mongolian princes.
