Visit Dazhao Temple
Dazhao literally means Big Temple, it is the oldest and largest temple in Inner Mongolia dedicated to the Gelugpa branch of Tibetan Buddhism. In 1557, when the Tümed Mongol leader Altan Khan began its construction, it was the first building of Hohhot; the rest of the city subsequently growing around it. The temple is said to have been completed in 1579. Dazhao Temple owns its fame to its astounding 10 ft silver Sakyamuni Buddha statue. The 3rd Dalai Lama, Sonam Gyatso, visited the temple in 1586 and consecrated the silver Buddha statue. As a consequence, Hohhot became a religious center for people from all over Mongolia who came to receive its blessings. The temple also has a shrine that was dedicated to the Kangxi Emperor of the Qing Dynasty in the late 17th century and murals in the hallway that commemorate his visit. Dazhao also exhibits an impressive collection of musical instruments and dragon sculptures relating to Mongol legends.

Visit the Five Pagoda Temple
The Five Pagoda Temple is also known as the "Precious Pagoda of the Buddhist Relics of the Diamond Throne". It was constructed by the Mongol monk Yangcarci in 1732. The stupa, which is situated at the northern most part of the temple complex, is surmounted by five pagodas and has 1,563 images of buddhas carved into its walls each one differing slightly from the other. Against the northern wall, outside the stupa, there are three large stone carvings representing: the wheel of life (left), a representation of the universe according to Buddhist cosmology (middle), and a rare Mongolian cosmological map, which illustrates the zodiac and positions of numerous stars. It is the only such map discovered yet in China from this era.

Visit the Inner Mongolia Museum
The Inner Mongolia Museum is a regional museum in the city of Hohhot in Inner Mongolia. This museum was founded on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, in 1957. The building itself showcases aspects of unique architecture and characteristics of the region. The Museum has over 44,000 objects relating to ethnic history in its collections. Among these quite a few are rare treasures seldom seen in China, especially the artifacts relating to the northern tribes called Xiongnu (the Huns), Xianbei, Qidan, Mongolians and others. The museum in particular offers an insight into the history and traditions of the Mongolian people exhibiting paraphernalia used by nomadic Mongols, including saddles, costumes, archery and polo equipments.

Visit Zhaojun Tomb
Wang Zhaojun was known as one of the Four Beauties of ancient China. She was sent by Han Dynasty emperor to marry Chanyu Huhanye of the Xiongnu Empire in order to establish friendly relations with the Han dynasty through marriage. It is believed that she was largely responsible for the amicable relationship enjoyed between the Han and Xiongnu people at the time and, in commemoration of her achievements, the local people built a tomb in her honour. Zhaojun Goes Beyond the Frontier is a phrase used to describe her departure from Han territory and her arrival in the Mongolian grasslands. It is regarded as a landmark event in Chinese history and is the subject of much poetry, theatre, literature, and music. Zhaojun Tomb is nicknamed Green Tomb which evolved from a local legend which states that when the wintery frost sets in and the plants are reduced to a withering yellow, the grass on Wang Zhaojun’s tomb miraculously remains green!
