Longji Rice Terraces

Introducing Longji Rice Terraces (from Guilin Municipal Commission of Tourism)
Longji Rice Terraces, also called Longsheng Rice Terraces, are located in Longsheng County, about 100 km (2 hours drive) from Guilin city. The most popular are Ping An Rice Terrace and Jinkeng Rice Terrace. Longji (Dragon's Backbone) Rice Terraces received their name because the rice terraces resemble a dragon's scales, while the summit of the mountain range looks like the backbone of the dragon. Visitors standing on the top of the mountain can see the dragon's backbone twisting off into the distance. In an early morning when weather is fine, the sunrise on the summit of Longji Rice Terraces is magnificent.

What to expect at Longji Rice Terraces
The terraced fields are built along the slope winding from the riverside up to the mountain top, the highest part being 880m in elevation while the lowest part is 380m. The coiling line that starts from the mountain foot up to the mountain top divides the mountain into layers of water glittering in the sun in spring, layers of green rice shoots in summer, layers of golden rice in fall, and layers of silvery frost in winter. At its beginning of Yuan Dynasty, the terraced fields were mostly built during the Ming Dynasty, about 500 years ago.

How to get to Longji Rice Terraces
• Longji Rice Terraces is approximately 95 km away from Guilin and 145 km from Yangshuo.
• Take a direct shuttle bus from Yangshuo Coach Station to Dazhai Village.
• Take a bus from Guilin Qintan Coach Station to Longsheng County. Then take the shuttle bus from Longsheng to Longji Rice Terraces.
• Rent a car/bus from GGC to enjoy a hassle free private transfer from hotels in Guilin or Yangshuo to Longji Rice Terraces.

Additional travel advice on Longji Rice Terraces
• Please wear comfortable hiking shoes.
• Please take enough clothes with you if you are planning to visit in winters as it is colder than Guilin.
• Please take an umbrella with you in case it is rainy there.
