Monte Fort, also name Fortress of Our Lady of the Mount of St. Paul, was built in conjunction with the Jesuits from 1617 to 1626. Monte Fort was the city's principal military defence structure. Monte Fort forms part of the "Historic Centre of Macau", a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Monte Fort was built between 1617 and 1626 on the 52 metre-tall Mount Hill, located directly east of the Ruins of St. Paul's. Monte Fort was constructed to protect the properties of the Jesuits in Macau, primarily from pirates. Later Monte Fort was seized by the governor for the defense of Macau.

Monte Fort had been home to of two companies of the Prince Regent Battalion to act as police force from 1810 to 1841.
