Statue of Mother Yellow River is a granite sculpture situated on the southern bank of the Yellow River in Lanzhou City. Statue of Mother Yellow River is renowned as one of the finest representations of the Chinese civilization’s mother river. Carved from a large granite block in 1986, the 40-ton sculpture measures 6 meters (19 ft) in length, 2.2 meters (7.2 ft) in width, and 2.6 meters (8.5 ft) in height. The impressive monument embodies the significance and nurturing essence of the Yellow River in Chinese culture.

Nestled contentedly at her side, a baby boy gazes serenely to the left, a peaceful smile gracing his face. 

The sculpture is rich in symbolism,  representing the Yellow River as a nurturing mother, providing sustenance and life to generations of Chinese people. The pedestal, adorned with rippling water and fish motifs inspired by ancient Gansu pottery, further anchors the artwork to the region’s rich history.
