Introducing Iron Bridge of Yellow River
Iron Bridge of Yellow River is a permanent steel truss bridge that spans the Yellow River in Lanzhou. Iron Bridge of Yellow River is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Built in 1909, it was initially known as the ‘First Bridge over Yellow River’. However, in 1928, the bridge was renamed in honor of Sun Yat-sen (Sun Zhongshan), a significant figure in Chinese history. The bridge’s iconic red hue, a striking feature upon its completion, was later changed to a more subdued dark grey during wartime as a camouflage tactic against bombings. This color scheme has been preserved, serving as a silent reminder of the bridge’s enduring presence through times of peace and conflict.
