Introducing Xidi Ancient Village
Huangshan Xidi Ancient Village lies in the Southeast of Yi County, Anhui province, occupying an area of 12.96 hectares. The traditional buildings in Xidi Ancient Village indicates the extraordinary talents and high achievements in human’s living buildings. And it is of high historical, artistic and scientific values. The Village is called “the land of Peach Blossom" or "Home In Wonderland" for its beauty and tranquility. It is also called "a treasure house of ancient resident architecture" for its well-preserved ancient houses and archways in Ming and Qing dynasties. As a cultural site, Huangshan Xidi Ancient Village was added to the list of World Heritage by UNESCO in 2000.

What to expect at Xidi Ancient Village

Surrounded by mountains and built along and between three streams running east-west, Xidi Ancient Village was first built during the Huangyou era (1049–1053) of Song Dynasty Emperor Renzong. Xidi Ancient Village boasts 124 well-preserved dwelling houses and 3 clan temples dating back to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In front of Xidi Ancient Village is a landmark - A glorious memorial archway in honor of a native, Hu Wen guang, who was an advanced governor in Ming Dynasty.

The street pattern of Xidi is dominated by a main road which runs in an east-west direction and is flanked by two parallel streets. These major streets are joined by many narrow alleyways. Small open spaces are confined to areas immediately in front of the main public buildings, such as the "Hall of Respect", the "Hall of Reminiscence", and the "Memorial Archway of the Governor".

Backed by picturesque hills and towering ancient woods, Xidi Ancient Village is noted for the harmony of its architecture and its colorful fields. The residential buildings are mostly black and white. The decorations display a strong flavor of the Ming and Qing dynasties. In the houses, there are collections of precious calligraphy and handicrafts. Potted plants, fishing pools and flowerbeds give the whole village a sense of harmony with nature and manmade culture.

How to get to Xidi Ancient Village
• Take a bus from Yixian Bus Station to Xidi.
• Take a bus from Huangshan Bus Station or Huangshan North Railway Station to Hongcun which passes by Xidi.
