Nanping Evening Bell
Jingci Temple is home to one of the ten famous scenic spots in West Lake area : “Evening Bell Ringing at the Nanping Hills.” Within the temple, there is a magnificent hanging bell that stands 3 meters tall (9.8 ft) and weighs over 10 tons. The current copper bell was a replacement for the original one, which was made during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) but went missing during the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). Adorned with intricate carvings, the bell showcases the Lotus Sutra (妙法莲花经) with an impressive total of 68,000 Chinese characters. When struck, this bell produces a resonant and powerful sound that reverberates throughout Nanping Hill, evoking a captivating and enchanting atmosphere.
Wood-Carrying Well
The Wood-Carrying Well in the Temple, holds great historical and cultural significance. Dating back to ancient times, it is said that wooden logs were thrown into the well, only to resurface in another location where they were needed for construction. This incredible magic earned it the name “Wood-Carrying Well.” Today, visitors marvel at this extraordinary well, which stands as a testament to the enduring folklore and spiritual traditions of Jingci Temple.
Jigong Hall
Jigong Hall is a sacred place where people show reverence to the folk deity, Jigong. It is decorated with elaborate artworks and sculptures that portray the fascinating stories and legends associated with Jigong’s life and teachings. Locals come to the hall to pay their respects, seek blessings and guidance from Jigong, who is known for his unique and compassionate nature.
