What to expect at Xixi Wetland Park

Whether seeking moments of reflection amidst serene landscapes or cultural exploration amidst historical treasures, Xixi National Wetland Park promises an unforgettable experience for all who wander its verdant paths.

Three Causeways

The three causeways, named Causeway Fu, Causeway Lv, and Causeway Shou, derive their names from the Chinese characters “Fu(福),” “Lv(绿),” and “Shou(寿),” symbolizing fortune, Verdant, and longevity respectively.

Causeway Fu spans 2,300 meters (1.4 miles) in length and 7 meters (22 ft) in width, running from south to north through the park. Six bridges adorned with the Chinese character “Fu(福)” span the banks along its route. Causeway Lv, stretching 1,600 meters (1 mile) long and also 7 meters (22 ft) wide, traverses the core reserve area from west to east. It connects the nature preserve with the wetland’s major scientific research project, serving as an ecological corridor. Causeway Shou, the longest of the three, extends 3,600 meters (2.2 miles) in length and 4.5 meters (14 ft) in width, stretching from south to north. Its path is adorned with crisscrossing waterways and ancient trees, forming an ecological landscape.

Hazy Fisher Village

With its dense weeping willows, mist-enveloped waters, and smoke rising from chimneys, this quaint village earned the evocative name of Hazy Fisher Village. Strolling along the riverside road, one can catch the faint fragrance emanating from unknown flora. A visit to one of the riverside teahouses is recommended to unwind and soak in the tranquil ambiance while enjoying a cup of tea. In this village, visitors can delve into Hangzhou Silk, farming, fishing, local weddings, and folk customs through dedicated exhibition halls.

Anchorage Thatching

Boarding the wooden wharf and following a path through the bamboo forest, one encounters a small hut topped with straw. This hut, known as the Anchorage Thatching, served as the dwelling of Zhou Xiaozhi, a hermit during the late Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Zhou Xiaozhi, along with his two brothers, embraced a modest existence, prioritizing reading and farming over the pursuit of fame or wealth. At that time, the hut was nestled amidst dense reeds, giving it the appearance of an island floating on the water when viewed from above.

Xixi Plum Villa

Xixi Plum Villa comprises a collection of traditional farmhouses located in the southwestern section of Xixi National Wetland Park, close to Autumn Snow Temple. The plum blossoms of Xixi have enjoyed renown since ancient times. During the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), numerous literati frequented this area for leisure and inspiration. Within the manor, a small wooden house offers beverages such as tea, coffee, and other refreshments for purchase.

Xixi Water Attic

XiXi Water Attic is a retreat and library haven for literati since ancient times in Xixi. Situated above the water, the Water Attic is divided into two parts: the “Lanxi Book House” and the “The Tower of Books,” where visitors can not only immerse themselves in the rich cultural atmosphere of Xixi but also gain insights into the leisurely and reclusive sentiments of literati from that era.

Autumn Snow Temple

Autumn Snow Temple, renowned for its ethereal beauty, draws its fame from the enchanting display of white bulrush flowers that adorn its surroundings. These delicate blossoms, akin to snowflakes drifting through the winter sky, lend an otherworldly charm to the temple grounds. As winter descends, the temple becomes a serene sanctuary where visitors can marvel at the mesmerizing sight of the bulrush flowers swaying gently in the breeze, evoking the serene tranquility of a winter wonderland.

Deep Mouth Pool

Nestled within serene waters, Deep Mouth Pool stands as a secluded gem waiting to be discovered. Accessible only by boat, this picturesque location serves as the esteemed venue for the annual dragon boat contest, adding a touch of excitement and tradition to its tranquil ambiance. As visitors embark on a journey to reach this hidden oasis, they are greeted by the pristine beauty of the surrounding landscape, with lush greenery and towering trees framing the shimmering waters.
