Introducing Nanwan Monkey Island
Surrounded by sea on three sides, Nanwan Monkey Island is located in Nanwan Island, 14 kilometers south of Lingshui County in Sanya, and is the only island preservation for macaques in China as well as in the world. Because of the nearly 400 kinds of tropical plants, 100 kinds of animals, 2,500 National Protected Animals--macaques, and the primitive environment, this island is called Monkey Island.

What to expect at Nanwan Monkey Island

Entering into the gate, you will first see a plaza of monkey sculpture, which is a replica of American Capitalist, Dr Hammer sending to the former leader of Soviet Union, Lenin. After that, you will come to the tourist resort of macaques, a warming welcome will be given from these lovely monkeys. And here, you will see the macaques which are filled with "humanity".

Actually a peninsula, Nanwan Monkey Island is home to about 1,800 endangered macaques whose habitat you are allowed to roam freely. Be careful, these monkeys will jump on humans (playful) or attack for sweet drinks or food (hungry and thirsty)! There are also some circus-style comedy shows featuring monkeys doing stunts. Entrance Nanwan Monkey Island ticket is 163 RMB with a round-trip ride on the gondola is another 60 RMB, but well worth the quiet, long, and smooth ride over gorgeous ocean-top fishing villages and jungle.

How to get to Nanwan Monkey Island
• Nanwan Monkey Island can by reached by bus 61, 80 and Inter-city Bus Line 2.
• Rent a car/bus from GGC to enjoy a hassle free private transfer from hotels in Sanya to Nanwan Monkey Island.

Additional travel advice on Nanwan Monkey Island
• Visitors can choose either cable car or boat to get on the island. It takes about 8-10 minutes by cable and visitors can have bird-view of the island. It is not suggested to take cable on public holidays or other peak time as there will be a long queue waiting in front of cableway.
• To feed monkeys, please buy the designated food and follow the guidance under the working staff in the scenic area.
