Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is named Mount Satseto in local Naxi language. The mountain is part of Yulong Snow Mountain National Scenic Area and National Geological Park. With thirteen peaks, including the highest peak called Shanzidou which is 5,596 m (18,360 ft) above sea level, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain spreads in the south-north direction like a huge dragon in the sky, with varied landscapes in different seasons and weathers. Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is a destination attracting not only tourists and people looking for a site for vacation and travel, but also mountain climbers, explorers, and scientists.

What to expect at Jade Dragon Snow Mountain

For the Naxi People and the local residents, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is a sacred mountain, incarnated by Sanduo, the God protecting the Naxi People. In early Yuan Dynasty when Kublai Khan came to Lijiang, he conferred a divine title on Jade Dragon Snow Mountain to express his admiration and respect for the God. Precipitous, outstanding, and novel are among the words to describe Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The main scenic spots around Jade Dragon Snow Mountain include Yunshanping, Baishui River, Ganhaizi, Bingtalin, among others.

The Great Cableway can take you to an observation platform at an elevation of 4,506 m (14,783 ft). You can also climb a few hundred steps to one of the highest observation platforms in the world at an elevation of 4,680 m (15,350 ft) for close views of the snow peak. Due to the extremely high elevation many people become oxygen starved and carry cans of compressed oxygen to help.

• Take a bus from Lijiang Bus Station (Yuhe Parking Lot) at the north entrance of Lijiang Old Town to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
• Rent a car/bus from GGC to enjoy a hassle free private transfer from hotels in Lijiang to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.

Additional travel advice on Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
• Please wear sunscreen, hat and sunglasses to prevent sunburns.
• The temperature on the mountain is very low. Please wear warm clothes and comfortable shoes.
• Prepare some food and drinkable water.
• The snow mountain has a high altitude. It is recommended to consult your doctor before climbing up the mountain. Prepare some medicines and compressed oxygen if necessary.
• There are usually many people visiting the mountain, especially during the peak seasons. It is suggested to get to the tramway earlier in case of waiting in long queues.
• Impression Lijiang Show is usually performed at the Blue Moon Valley Square at the Ganhaizi Area at 11:30. It may be cancelled due to bad weather conditions.
