Introducing City God Temple of Shanghai
Located at the center of Shanghai, Chenghuang Temple, or the City God Temple, is one of the key historical sites in Shanghai. It was originally built during the Yongle reign (1403-1424) of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and welcomed its most prosperous period in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

What to expect at City God Temple of Shanghai
City God Temple of Shanghai is a Taoist temple. Covering an area of more than 10,000 square meters, City God Temple of Shanghai is made up of many halls and two gardens. Today, City God Temple of Shanghai is an important venue for religious activities in Shanghai and for international cultural exchange.
Nowadays, the "City God Temple of Shanghai" not only refers to the large temple complex, but also the traditional district of commerce in the city, surrounding the temple. There are over a hundred stores and shops in this area, and most of these store buildings are nearly a century old. The City God Temple of Shanghai connects to the Yuyuan Garden, another landmark of the old city.
The temple is colloquially known in Shanghai as the "Old City God Temple of Shanghai", in reference to a later "New City God Temple", which no longer exists.
How to get to City God Temple of Shanghai
By Metro
• Take Metro Line 10 and get off at Yuyuan Station (Exit 3).
By Bus
• Take bus 267, 932 and get off at Chenghuangmiao Station.
• Take bus No. 11, 26, 64, 304, 736, 805, 920, 926 or 930 and get off at Xinbeimen Station.
