What to expect at Grand View Park
The focus of this park is the Grand View Pavilion. As one of the most famous pavilions in China, the present-day three-strayed pavilion was built in 1883. Standing at the top of the Grand View Pavilion, looking into the distance, you will have a panoramic view of Dianchi Lake and the Western Hills, hence the name "Grand View Park". The Grand View Pavilion is known in China for its longest antithetical couplet on both sides of its south gate, a 118-character verse, reputed to be the longest set of rhyming couplets in China. The first part (on the right) of the couplet describes the beautiful and magnificent natural views in Kunming. The second part (on the left) reviews the 2,000 years' history of Yunnan.
Other famous attractions of the Grand View Park Scenic Area include the three-storied Grand View Park, which provides a spectacular view across sparkling Dianchi Lake to the Western Hills; some winding corridors; Bonsai Garden with all kinds of bonsais, strange rockeries; willowed causeways in the Southern Garden; Baihuadi where you could go fishing; and arch bridges.
