Zhangjiajie National Forest Park

Introducing Zhangjiajie National Forest Park (from Zhangjiajie Tourism)
Covering some 50 square miles, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is known for being the first national forest park of China as well as for being the highlight of the gorgeous Wulingyuan Scenic Area. Zhangjiajie National Forest Park was originally a state-run tree farm, which was founded in 1958, and then was officially approved to be a national forest park in 1982.

What to expect at Zhangjiajie National Forest Park

Located in a subtropical climate, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is endowed with a unique micro climate of forest--cool in summer and warm in winter. Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is home to abundant flora and fauna including civet cats, giant salamanders, satyr tragopans, dove trees, maidenhair trees, Chinese yews, and Chinese tulip trees. Such a dense forest serves as a huge natural oxygen bar. Zhangjiajie National Forest Park also serves as a museum for the pristine ethnic culture of the region.

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park has five scenic areas--Huangshizhai, Golden Whip Stream, Yaozizhai, Yuanjiajie, and Yangjiajie--open to visitors. At present, six travel routes including 468 sightseeing spots have been developed at Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and a wide range of up to four-star hotels provide visitors with more than 4,000 beds.

How to get to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park
• Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is approximately 35 km away from Zhangjiajie.
• Take a tourist bus from Zhangjiajie Central Bus Station to Wulingyuan.
• Rent a car/bus from GGC to enjoy a hassle free private transfer from hotels in Zhangjiajie to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park.

Additional travel advice on Zhangjiajie National Forest Park
• Please wear comfortable hiking shoes.
• It is recommended to take an umbrella with you.
• Be sure not to explore the areas marked with “No Passing” and “Dangerous”.
• The mountain road is wet and slippery in rainy days. In addition, rain and fog can also lead to unclear sight. Thus, it is not suggested that you risk climbing the mountain in the rain.
