After getting settled at the hotel, you may explore Sanya on your own. Sanya is the southernmost city on Hainan Island and the southern-most tip of China. Due to its remoteness from the political centers during the Imperial China eras on Mainland China, Sanya was called Tianya Haijiao, meaning "the end of the sky and ocean" or "the end of the earth". As a result, the city served as a place of exile for officials who found themselves out of favor with the emperors. Today, Sanya claims to be the Hawaii of China with a stunning coastline, beautiful beaches, abundance of shopping opportunities and lavish luxury hotels.

Tips on Sanya Beaches
While the full 40km or so of coastline dedicated to tourism is usually referred to as Sanya, the region is actually made up of three distinct zones. Sanya Bay is home to the bustling city centre and a long stretch of beach and hotels aimed at locals and mainland holidaymakers. Busy, cheerfully tacky Dadonghai Bay, about 3km southeast, beyond the Luhuitou Peninsular, is where most western travellers stay. A further 15km east, at exclusive Yalong Bay, the beach is first-rate, as is the line of plush international resorts.
Day 4 Free at leisure in the morning, Nanshan Temple, Tianya Haijiao
Free at leisure in the morning. Visit Nanshan Temple in the afternoon. Nanshan Temple was built in a beautiful setting on the seacoast in April 1998 to mark the 2000th anniversary of the arrival of Buddhism to China, and has become known as the Temple between the sky and sea. Nanshan, which means Southern Mountain, is part of the Buddhism Culture Park-- one of the three parks that make up the Nanshan Culture Tourism Zone. The other two parks are the Blessing and Longevity Park and Hainan Custom Culture Park. The Nanshan Temple is China's southernmost Buddhist shrine. It is famous for housing a massive gold statue of Buddha and a statue of Avalokitesvara "Guanyin" , over 300 feet high, built upon the sea. Continue to visit Tianya Haijiao. Tianya Haijiao literally means Edges of Heaven, Corners of Sea. It is the southern-most tip of China. Here, beaches, majestic cliffs, turquoise water, green hills and blue sky come together in perfect harmony.
