Visit Haikou Volcanic Cluster Geopark
Haikou Volcanic Cluster Geopark spans 108 square kilometres and is part of the larger UNESCO Leiqiong Global Geopark. The main attraction of the Geopark is the Ma’anling (Saddle Ridge) Crater Scenic Area. When seen from a distance, the volcano looks like a saddle between the protruding peaks of Mount Fengluling and Mount Baoziling. Walk through the landscaped park and ascend the Fengluling crater, its name a result of its resemblance to a draft furnace. Then climb back up for luscious views of the countryside all the way to the sea.

Visit Meishe Village
Meishe Village was built out of the rough grey volcanic stone. One particularly interesting building at Meishe Village is the gun tower built in 1927. It’s a five-story building used to protect the village in troubled times from bandits. Wander the quiet back alleys of Meishe Viilage and gawp at the castle-like, five-storey gun tower in the town centre.

Visit Temple of the Five Lords
Temple of the Five Lords is also also known as the Temple of the Five Officials. It is a memorial shrine to five exiled officials from the Tang and Song dynasties that is located to the southeast of the city of Haikou. During the times of these dynasties, Hainan was perceived as a remote part of the empire and was used as a place for banishment for disgraced court officials. All five officials commemorated at the temple encountered such a fate, typically after losing power struggles within the imperial court. The temple's main building is the Five Lords Ancestral Hall. It is a red two-story wooden structure that stands more than 9 m meters tall and has a total floor space of 560 square meters. A historical inscription on a board placed over the front entrance on the second floor declares it the "first building in Hainan".

Visit Haikou Old Town
Haikou old town contains the oldest buildings in the city and was largely built by wealthy Chinese from the mainland and some overseas Chinese who had returned to their homeland. The houses are a mixture of styles including Portuguese, French, and Southeast Asian. The streets used to be divided into different areas selling Chinese and western medicine, for silk and bespoke clothes, one for fresh fish and meat, and others for the sale of incense, candles, paper, ink, and other goods. Haikou Old Town has some cute cafes, bookshops, and markets hawking handicrafts and spices, while down the smaller side streets you can still see active scenes of local life.
