Visit Labrang Monastery
Labrang Monastery is one of the six great monasteries of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism located in the traditional Tibetan area of Amdo. Founded in 1709 by Ngagong Tsunde, the first-generation Jamyang (a line of reincarnated Rinpoches or living Buddhas ranking third in importance after the Dalai and Panchen lamas), from nearby Ganjia, the monastery is home to the largest number of monks outside the Tibet Autonomous Region. Labrang is also one of the largest Buddhist monastic universities in Tibet with six tratsang (monastic colleges or institutes), exploring esoteric Buddhism, theology, medicine, astrology and law. The white walls and gilded roofs of the monastery feature a blend of Tibetan and Indian Vihara architectural styles. The monastery contains 18 halls, six institutes of learning, a gilded stupa, a sutra debate area, and houses nearly 60,000 sutras.

Visit Ganjia Grassland, Tibetan Nomad Family, Trakkar Gompa, Bajiao Town Site & Tseway Gompa
Ganjia Grassland is a picturesque Tibetan grassland where herds of sheep and yaks are dotted here and there under the blue sky and along breathtaking loess plateau landscape. Ganjia Grassland is the birth place of the founder of Labrang Monastery, the first Jamyang Zheaypa, Ngawang Tsondru. Experience the nomad life of Tibetans living in tents at Ganjia Grassland. Visit the Trakkar Gompa, a monastery of 90 monks set against a stunning backdrop of vertical rock formations and with sweeping views of the grasslands. Then visit the 2000-year-old Han dynasty town of Bajiao, whose remarkable 12-sided walls still shelter a small living community. Afterwards, visit Tseway Gompa, one of the few Bön monasteries in Gansu. Make sure you circumnavigate any holy site counterclockwise in the Bön fashion (the opposite direction from the usual way). There are great views of Bajiao from the ridge behind the monastery.
