Know Before You Go

• Your guide will greet you in the airport arrival hall with a GoGrandChina welcome sign displaying your name.
Day 1 Arrive Xiahe
Meet your guide at Xiahe airport or train stations and transfer to your hotel in a comfortable private vehicle. After getting settled at the hotel, you may explore Xiahe on your own. Xiahe is the largest Tibetan monastery town outside the Tibetan Autonomous Region and exists due to the Labrang Monastery which is one of the six main Tibetan monasteries of the Gelupka sect.

Day 2 Labrang Monastery, Ganjia Grassland, Tibetan Nomad Family, Trakkar Gompa, Bajiao Town Site & Tseway Gompa
Morning visit to Labrang Monastery, one of the six great monasteries of the Gelukpa (Yellow Hat) Sect and home to the largest number of monks outside of Tibet Autonomous Region. Founded in 1709, Labrang Monastery is one of the largest Buddhist monastic universities. The monastery contains 18 halls, six institutes of learning, a golden stupa, a sutra debate area, and houses nearly 60,000 sutras. Continue with a visit to Ganjia Grassland, a picturesque Tibetan grassland where herds of sheep and yaks are dotted here and there under the blue sky and along breathtaking loess plateau landscape. Followed with a visit to a Tibetan family to know about Tibetan life style and local customs in depth. Then, visit the Trakkar Gompa, a monastery of 90 monks set against a stunning backdrop of vertical rock formations and with sweeping views of the grasslands. Next, visit the 2000-year-old Han dynasty town of Bajiao, whose remarkable 12-sided walls still shelter a small living community. Afterwards, visit Tseway Gompa, one of the few Bön monasteries in Gansu. Make sure you circumnavigate any holy site counterclockwise in the Bön fashion (the opposite direction from the usual way). There are great views of Bajiao from the ridge behind the monastery.

Day 3 Milarepa Palace Buddhist Temple
Drive out of Xiahe to Milarepa Palace Buddhist Temple (approximately 70 km, one & half hours driving). Milarepa was considered one of Tibet's most famous yogis and poets and a major figure in the history of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. He led an inspiring life of spiritual progress and human accomplishment. His story exudes timeless themes of evildoing and redemption, perseverance in the face of many hardships, and dedication to the path. Milarepa Palace is both deeply steeped in mystery and unusual in the Tibetan world as different spiritual leaders from varying sects are worshipped on each floor.
