As the royal residences of the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties from the 15th to 20th century, the Forbidden City used to be the centre of State power in late feudal China. It was constructed between 1406 and 1420 by the Ming emperor Zhu Di and witnessed the enthronement of 14 Ming and 10 Qing emperors over the following 505 years. There are over a million rare and valuable works of art in the permanent collection of the Forbidden City including paintings, ceramics, seals, steles, sculptures, inscribed wares, bronze wares, enamel objects, etc. The Forbidden City was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987 and is listed by UNESCO as the largest collection of preserved ancient wooden structures in the world.

 Visit Jingshan Park
Jingshan is a small hill located behind the Forbidden City, which once served as the emperor's imperial garden. Standing at the height of 51 meters in the middle of Beijing's north-south axis and facing the Forbidden City, Jingshan offers a full view of Beijing, including the Drum and Bell Tower and the white pagoda of Beihai park. You will also have a chance to see local people's daily life such as practicing Taichi, singing and dancing in the park.

Visit Temple of Heaven
The Temple of Heaven is an imperial complex of religious buildings situated in the southeastern part of central Beijing. The complex was visited by the Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties for annual ceremonies of prayer to Heaven for good harvest. Considered to be the supreme achievement of traditional Chinese architecture, its layout symbolizes the belief that heaven is round and earth square. The Temple of Heaven was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998 and was described as a masterpiece of architecture and landscape design which simply and graphically illustrates a cosmogony of great importance for the evolution of the Chinese civilizations.

The Summer Palace is the largest and best-preserved royal garden in China and also in the World. It was first built in 1750 by Emperor Qianglong, largely destroyed in the war of 1860 and restored on its original foundations in 1886. Constructed around the Longevity Hill and Kunming Lake, Summer Palace is a vast complex of gardens, palaces, lakes, and hills. Day 2 Hour by Hour Itinerary

Hotel Pick-up
Your guide will be holding GoGrandChina pick-up sign and waiting for you in your hotel lobby (or other appointed meeting place) at the appointed meeting time.

Drive to the Great Wall of China at Mutianyu
Mutianyu is located 70 kilometers northeast of the center of Beijing. It will be 1½ or 2 hours' driving from downtown Beijing to Mutianyu Great Wall. Your knowledgeable guide will share with you historical facts about the Great Wall of China on the way.

Explore Mutianyu Great Wall
As one of the best-preserved parts of the Great Wall of China, Mutianyu Great Wall served as the northern barrier defending the capital and the imperial tombs of the Ming Dynasty. Built mainly with granite, this 2250-metre long section of the Great Wall is popular for its distinctive watchtowers and breathtaking natural scenery. Watchtowers are distributed at short intervals along the Wall, in total the wall has 23 watchtowers. These watchtowers is numbered from 1 to 23 from the east to west, the highest one on the western end is Tower 23 (23rd watchtower), which is the destination for visitors who hike up the wall. Generally it takes more than half an hour to hike up to the Great Wall starting from the entrance, after that you may not have enough energy to hike the Great Wall itself. Therefore, the best way is to take cable car or chairlift to reach the Great Wall, additionally you can enjoy the aerial views of the mountain from the cable car or chairlift. GoGrandChina has included round-way cable car or round way chairlift (toboggan) into this package. You may ascend to and descend from the Wall by cable car; you may ascend to and descend from the Wall by chairlift; you may ascend to the Wall by chairlift and descend from the Wall by toboggan. Please inform your option to GoGrandChina tour guide in advance. If you want to take one way cable car up and one way chairlift or toboggan down, you need to pay the price difference CNY120 per person at your own expense.

Tips on Selection of Cable Car or Chairlift
The cable car will take you to the 14th watchtower. From 14th watchtower, you can either first hike to the 23rd watchtower (the highest watchtower) at the higher and western section of the wall, or hike down to its eastern section at lower altitude. It’s better to hike towards the west first, as you can explore the eastern section (the lower section) after you returned from the higher section. Normally it would take about 2 hours to complete the hike from the 14th watchtower to 23rd watchtower. The chairlift ascends to the 6th watchtower while the toboggan descends from watchtower 6 too. It might be a challenge to hike from the 6th watchtower to the 23rd watchtower. But you can decide based on your physical condition.

Lunch Advice
Your lunch is not included in this tour package. Your guide will show you fast food chains such as Subway and Burger King at the foot of the Great Wall. It is recommended that you buy some takeout and have a picnic on the Great Wall, which could be an exciting experience.

Drive to Ming Tombs
The distance between Mutianyu Great Wall and Ming Tombs is 45km and it will be about one hour driving on the way.

Visit Ming Dingling Tomb (the only excavated Ming emperor’s tomb)
The Ming tombs are located in topographical settings carefully chosen according to principles of geomancy (Fengshui) and comprise numerous buildings of traditional architectural design and decoration. Dingling is the burial place of the Wanli emperor, his wife, and his favorite concubine. Emperor Wanli was the thirteenth emperor of the Ming dynasty and ruled from 1572 to 1620. His tomb was built between 1584 and 1590. Excavation of Dingling Tomb began in May 1959 and was completed within a year. More than 3,000 artifacts were found in the 1,195 square meter underground palace which is located 27 meter below ground surface. The underground palace is a vast marble vault and divided into five large chambers. The original marble thrones are still there.

Fabulous experience at Beijing Review by TAYLOR ETHAN
Fabulous experience. The drivers and guides were great. The meeting point is easily reachable by private transportations. The section of the wall we visited was truly beautiful and mangnificant. So at some point, you found yourself completely along this marvellous piece of engineering. The surroundings are equally beautiful, with sections of the wall being taken over by the forest. The guides were also very friendly and showed a wide knowledge about Chinese history and the wall construction. Everything went so smooth not a glich in the deal. Worth the money. 100 recommendable! Good time at Beijing Review by Williams Isabella
We had a good time at Beijing, the Lisa Tour tour-guide, Lisa, had been providing a good service to us. She and the driver had been very punctual, always arrived in good time on both dates. Lisa scheduled the tour around us and taking into account of my wifes health when planning various visits. First day was very hot at Beijing when we visited the Tiananmen Square, Jinghsan Park, the Palace Museum Forbidden City and Temple of Heaven, so we shorten the trip and Linda was able to accommodate our requirements, but worth the trip to these must-see sites. Second day, had a very won derful day on the Great Wall at Mutianyu, a wonderful view and a very good walk on the wall, you need a lot of energy to climb the steep wall. Went up to the Great Wall on cable car and then came down on the sledge, what an experience! Definitely recommend the Great Wall at Mutianyu, less busy, much better view and lovely cool breeze. Thank you, Lisa Tour and Raina, for providing us with a good experience in Beijing. Will use Lisa tour again next time we come to Beijing and recommend Lisa to our friends and colleagues.
