Explore Terracotta Warriors
The Terracotta Warriors and Horses are a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shihuang, the first Emperor of China. They were buried to protect the emperor in his afterlife. The warriors were discovered in 1974 by a group of farmers digging a well. Since then, an estimated 8000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses have been discovered in three pits. The clay figures were once brightly painted with mineral colors and were grouped into a specific military formation. They are all different sizes and shapes, and each one is individually modeled. The Terracotta Army is one of the most significant archaeological excavations of the 20th century in the world. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.

Visit Emperor Qin's Mausoleum
Located at the northern foot of Mt. Lishan, Emperor Qin's Mausoleum is the final resting place of Emperor Qin Shihuang, founder of the first unified empire in Chinese history in the 3rd century BCE. The tomb mound, begun in 246 BCE, stands at a height of 76 meters within a rectangular double-walled enclosure. The property area of 56.25 square kilometers contains nearly 200 accompanying pits with terracotta warriors and horses, bronze chariots and weapons, acrobats, strongmen and musicians, and architectural remains. The highlight of the mausoleum is the two sets of bronze chariots that were unearthed in 1980. These chariots are half the size of the real chariots and are widely believed to resemble the real imperial chariots and horses used by Emperor Qin Shihuang.

Lunch on your own
Lunch is not included. You may try some fast food chains outside the Terracotta Warriors Museum.

Visit the City Wall of Xian
The City Wall of Xi’an, at 13.74 kilometers long, is the largest and only complete ancient city wall in China. Construction began in 1370, incorporating the western and southern parts of the original Tang Dynasty Imperial City Wall, and was completed in 1378. The wall encloses an area of 11.3 square kilometers (4.4 square miles) of old Xi’an city center in a rectangular circuit and was built as a defense fortification with a moat, drawbridges, watchtowers, corner towers, protruding parapets, and gate towers. The Xi’an City Wall exhibits the complete features of feudal society’s rampart architecture and is on the tentative list of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites.

Visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda & Daci'en Temple
Constructed in 652 during the Tang dynasty, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda stands as one of Xi’an’s most recognizable landmarks. Rising to a height of 64 meters with seven stories and adorned with a golden spire, this brick pagoda was erected to enshrine Buddhist sutras and relics brought back from India by the renowned monk Xuanzang. The Big Wild Goose Pagoda serves as a testament to Xi’an’s rich history and its significance as a major center of Buddhism during the Tang dynasty. In 2014, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the “Silk Roads: the Routes Network of Chang’an-Tianshan Corridor”.

Daci'en Temple
Daci'en Temple was built in 648 by Crown Prince Li Zhi to honor his mother. The temple's name means "Great Kindness and Grace" in Chinese, reflecting the emperor's desire to pay tribute to his mother's virtues. In 649, Xuanzang, who is famous for his 17-year journey to India that inspired the well-known Chinese literary work “Journey to the West,” was appointed as the abbot of Daci’en Temple. At Daci’en Temple, Xuanzang founded the Buddhist Faxiang School, also known as the Consciousness-Only School. In 652, he built the Big Wild Goose Pagoda to house the Buddhist texts, Buddha statues, and sarira relics he brought back from India. After the fall of the Tang Dynasty, the temple fell into disrepair but was later renovated during the Ming & Qing dynasties. The surviving halls and rooms date back to the Qing dynasty.

Transfer Back to Your Hotel
After visiting the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, your private guide and driver will transfer you back to your hotel.

Classic Xian Private Day Trip Review by Oliver Jones

This was a terrific tour. Our guide Amy was very informed and pleasant. We were picked up on time at our hotel and taken to both venues, with a wonderful lunch in between at a five-star hotel . It was a crushingly hot day with a billion people seemingly to see the warriors, but we still managed to have a great experience thanks to our guide. Would heartily recommend this tour!
