Huangyaguan Great Wall is located on mountains in north of Ji County, 28 km to the downtown of Ji County. East side and west side are steep cliffs. On the mountains, there are full of buildings and towers. It is an important fortress of water and land, and it is also a completed ancient military defense system. Huangyaguan Great Wall concentrated the essence of the Chinese Great Wall, and it is an epitome of the Great Wall of Ming Dynasty. In 1990, it was rated as the first of "top ten sceneries of Tianjin". In 1994, Huangyaguan Great Wall was named as "Patriotism education base", "national defense base", "Tianjin top ten youth culture amusement area" by Tianjin municipal government.

What to expect at Huangyaguan Great Wall

Huangyaguan Great Walll built in seventh year of Tianbao period of North Qi Dynasty. In Ming Dynasty, The Great Wall was repaired and covered by bricks. It covers an area of 21 square meters. In 1984, to respond the great recall of Deng Xiaoping: “Love China, Build the Great Wall”, the Tianjin peoples repaired the main wall from Banlagang Mountain to Wangmaoding Mountain, the length of the Great Wall is about 3025 meters. Huangyaguan Great Wall took three years to repair it; 20 buildings, one eight diagrams pass, one Huangya water pass, and the first museum along the Great Wall, the bamboo engraving hall, the unique forest of hundred generals' steles and forest of hundred philosophers' steles, and the forest of steles of Mao Zedong’s poem were built. In recent years, eight diagrams maze, longevity garden and Taipei steles garden were built. It kept the original simple appearance of ancient Great Wall, formed a combination of architectural art and artistic art and the unification of natural landscape and cultural landscape.

How to get to Huangyaguan Great Wall
• Huangyaguan Great Wall is approximately 150km away from Tianjin and 130 km from Beijing.
• Take a bus from Tianjin Tongsha Passenger Station to Huangyaguan Great Wall directly.
• Take a bus from Beijing Sihui Long-Distance Bus Station to Ji County. Then charter a vehicle to the scenic area.
• Take a train from Tianjin Railway Station, Tianjin North Railway Station or Beijing East Railway Station to Ji County. Then charter a vehicle to the scenic area.
• Rent a car/bus from GGC to enjoy a hassle free private transfer from hotels in Tianjin or Beijing to Huangyaguan Great Wall.

Additional travel advice on Huangyaguan Great Wall
• Please wear comfortable hiking shoes and clothes.
• Prepare some food and drinkable water.
• UV is very strong on the great wall. Please wear sunscreen, hat and sunglasses to prevent sunburns.
• Some roads on the great wall are steep. Please watch out your steps while hiking.
• Visitors can enter the scenic area either from Huangya Pass or Taipingzhai (2.2 km from Huangya Pass). It takes 1 to 2 hours hiking from one entrance to the other.
