Visit Western Hills & Dianchi Lake with Cable Car
Located west of the Dianchi Lake, Western Hills extend for more than 40 kilometers at an altitude of 2,500 meters above sea level. It looks like a beautiful lady laying beside Dianchi Lake with her face upward and her hair trailing into water. That is why it got another name 'Sleeping Beauty Hills'. The top of Western Hills is the Dragon Gate which is a group of grottoes, sculptures, corridors and pavilions that were hacked from the cliff between 1781 and 1835 by a Taoist monk. Dragon Gate offers a great view of Dianchi Lake. Take a 20 minute cable car up to the Dragon Gate, then hike for 20 minutes to Kuixing Pavilion, the highest point of Western Hills. Here you can enjoy an amazing bird's eye view of Dianchi Lake and Kunming City.

Visit the Grand View Park
Grand View Park is located on the shore of Dianchi Lake west of Kunming, with lush flowers, trees, rockeries, pavilions, bridges and rivers. The focus of this park is the Grand View Pavilion. As one of the most famous pavilions in China, the present-day three-storiyed pavilion was built in 1883. Standing at the top of the Grand View Pavilion, looking into the distance, you will have a panoramic view of Dianchi Lake and the Western Hills, hence the name "Grand View Park".  The Grand View Pavilion is known in China for its longest antithetical couplet on both sides of its south gate, a 118-character verse, reputed to be the longest set of rhyming couplets in China. The first part (on the right) of the couplet describes the beautiful and magnificent natural views in Kunming. The second part (on the left) reviews the 2,000 years' history of Yunnan.

Visit Yuantong Temple
Yuantong Temple is the largest and most active Buddhist temple in Kunming which dates back 1,200 years to the Tang Dynasty. After two major restorations and expansions during the Ming & Qing dynasties, the temple took on its present design, with covered corridors, bridges and grand halls. Yuantong Temple is a fusion of Mahayana Buddhism (Chinese Han Buddhism), Tibetan Buddhism and Hinayana Buddhism practiced in Thailand, Myanmar and other Southeast Asian countries. Visitors can explore three types of Buddhist beliefs in one temple. The Yuantong Hall features Chinese Buddhism with two 10 meter high dragon pillars on both sides of the main Buddha. The Copper Buddha Hall is the hall of Hinayana Buddhism practiced in Southeast Asia. Tsongkhapa who founded the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism is on the right and the founder of the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism is situated on the left inside the Hall of Tibetan Buddhism.

Visit the Golden Temple
The Golden Temple is the best preserved and largest existing copper Taoist temple in China. It was first built in 1602 during the Ming dynasty. Over 200 tons of copper was used in the construction of the temple. Golden Temple is named after the scene that golden light shines from the temple when the temple is in sunshine. Lies on the top of Mingfeng Mountain, with double eaves, the temple is square shaped. It is 6.7 meters tall, 6.2 meters wide and 6.2 meters deep. The beam colums, brackets, roof, tiles, curtains, tables, bottles, horizontal inscribed boards, etc. are all made of copper. The Golden Temple National Forest Park where Golden Temple is located is home to 932 species of wild plants. Tea garden, azalea garden and magnolia garden were added to the park in the recent years. In the tea garden, there is a 500 to 600 year old, 6.6 meter tall tea tree named Wings of the Butterfly camellia.

Visit Golden Horse and Jade Rooster Archways
Located in the heart of Kuning, the Golden Horse and Jade Rooster Archways were originally built during the Ming Dynasty somewhat 600 years ago, with a height of 12 meters, a width of 18 meters. The east Golden Horse Archway was named after its location that is near the Golden Horse Mountain. The west Jade Rooster Archway is situated close to the Jade Rooster Mountain. The existing archways were rebuilt in 1998 based on the original style as the original archways were destroyed during the Culture Revolution (1966-1976). Both archways are decorated with exquisite patterns and overhanging eaves. The streets near Golden Horse and Jade Rooster Archways are a paradise for foodies as they offer a variety of local authentic food and other types of cuisine.

Visit Flower and Bird Market
The Flower and Bird Market is located in the Kunming’s downtown area, and is the city's biggest and most popular bazaar. Visitors can purchase all kinds of flowers and birds, as its name suggests, one can also find a wide array of cute little puppy dogs, live crickets, birds, live bird food, tortoises, crawly and/or fluffy, souvenirs, replica weapons, fish, turtles, rodents, and many other items on sale. The market offers the typical Chinese shopping atmosphere with bargaining shoppers and shrewd shopkeepers.
