Jade Spring Park

Introducing Jade Spring Park
Lying at the foot of the Elephant Mountain in the north of the ancient town of Lijiang, the Jade Spring Park, also known as Yuquan Park Pool, originates in steams of spring water merging together to form a 40,000 sq meter pool and thus called the Black Dragon Pool. It was built in 1737 during the Qing dynasty and offers views of the region's tallest mountain, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, over its white marble bridge.

What to expect at Jade Spring Park

The park features several smaller temples and pavilions: the Moon-Embracing Pavilion, Dragon God Temple and Five-Phoenix Tower. The Moon-Embracing Pavilion was originally built in the late Ming dynasty. The current structure is a reproduction from 1963 after a fire in 1950. Here still established a Dongba Culture Institute, studying Dongba paintings, calligraphy and rituals, etc. The Dragon God Temple, was constructed by local Naxi people in 1737 and is located to the east of the park. It was given the name Dragon God of Jade Spring by the Qianlong Emperor of the Qing dynasty in the same year. Tourist can also listen to the Naxi ancient music on temple. The threefold overlap Five-Phoenix Tower was built in 1601 at the Fuguo Temple, which is 30 kilometers to the west, but was moved to the current location in 1979. It is an important historical relics protected by the Yunnan province. Due to 20 cornices similar to five flying phoenixes hence got its name.

The Stone Lions in Civilization Square was built in Wanli, Ming Dynasty. There are four stone lions two male and two female. Weathering in wind and rains, they are still the guard of the Jade Spring Park.

How to get to Jade Spring Park
• Take bus 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 13, 20 or 28 to Heilongtan.
• Rent a car/bus from GGC to enjoy a hassle free private transfer from hotels in Lijiang to Jade Spring Park.

Additional travel advice on Jade Spring Park
• Keep the entrance ticket (receipt of maintenance fee) of the Lijiang Old Town along with you. It is required to show the ticket when visiting the Jade Spring Park.
• Please take care of yourself in case that you drop into the pool.
• Please wear sunscreen, hat and sunglasses to prevent sunburns.
