Day 1 Arrival in Jiayuguan, Jiayuguan Airport/Train Station Pick-up
Meet your driver at Jiayuguan airport or train station and transfer to your hotel in a private vehicle. Jiayuguan is the first frontier fortress at the west end of the Ming dynasty Great Wall of China.

Day 2 Jiayuguan, Jiayuguan Pass, Overhanging Great Wall, Wei & Jin Mural Brick Tomb, Drive to Zhangye
Visit Jiayuguan Pass in the morning. Also known as "the First and Greatest Pass under Heaven", Jiayuguan Pass is the best preserved and most magnificent military building among the three passes of the Great Wall. Located at the narrowest point of the western part of Hexi Corridor, Jiayuguan Pass is a key passageway of the ancient Silk Road. It commands fascinating views of the boundless Gobi Desert and the snow-capped Qilian Mountains. Next, visit the Overhanging Great Wall. Running about 9km north of Jiayuguan Pass, the Overhanging Great Wall is believed to have been first constructed in 1539 during the Ming Dynast standing 1.5 kilometers long and snaking up the mountain. Using yellow earth and local gravel, the wall was built painstakingly layer by layer. With a steep ascent over 400 steps to the top of the 1997 reconstructed Great Wall, the stunning snow-covered Qilian mountains, the vast open desert, and the factories of modern day China can be seen in the distance. Then proceed to Wei & Jin Mural Brick Tomb, a huge tomb group of more than 1,400 tombs built between the 3rd and 5th century and houses vast collection of murals renowned as the largest subterranean art gallery in the world. Drive to Zhangye late in the afternoon (about 2.5 hours). Marco Polo is said to have spent a year in Zhangye around 1274 – he provided a detailed description of Zhangye (by its historical name, Campichu) in The Travels of Marco Polo.

Day 3 Zhangye, Rainbow Colored Mountains, Giant Buddha Temple
Morning visit to the Rainbow Colored Mountains located inside Zhangye Danxia Geopark. Named a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Rainbow Colored Mountains are cretaceous sandstones and siltstones that were deposited in China before the Himalayan Mountains were formed. The sand and silt was deposited with iron and trace minerals that provided it with the key ingredient to form the colors we see today. Hike through five different "platforms" of height and explore the changing views. Get your camera ready for a sunset view over the colorful mountains. Continue with a visit to the Giant Buddha Temple upon arrival. Marco Polo discribed a giant reclining Buddha in the city of Zhangye where he stood in front of the Buddha and was inspired by the dedication of the Buddhist monks to create such a large structure. Originally built during the Western Xia Dynasty (1038-1227), the temple is home to the largest statue of the Reclining Buddha in China. The temple itself is also one of the largest remaining relics of the Western Xia Dynasty. This Giant Buddha Temple is also believed to be the birthplace of Kublai Khan, the Mongol emperor who ruled China in the 13th century. Entering the temple, you are walking in the footsteps of Marco Polo.

Day 4 Bullet Train to Lanzhou, Waterwheel Garden, Iron Bridge of Yellow River, White Pagoda Mountain
Take second class high-speed train to Lanzhou (4 hours). Located on the banks of the Yellow River, Lanzhou has been a major link on the Northern Silk Road and it stands to become a major hub on the New Eurasian Land Bridge. It is now the capital and largest city of Gansu Province in Northwest China. Upon arrival visit the Waterwheel Garden, the oldest irrigation tool along the Yellow River. Cruise down the Yellow River on a traditional goatskin raft as an optional tour. Goatskin rafting  was the major form of transportation along the Yellow River until the first steel bridge was built in 1907. Afterwards, visit the Iron Bridge of Yellow River and White Pagoda Mountain. Completed in 1909, the German-made Iron Bridge of Yellow River represents the first permanent bridge built on the Yellow River. White Pagoda Mountain affords a great bird's eye view of Lanzhou City.

Day 5 Departure from Lanzhou, Transfer to Lanzhou Airport or Train Stations

• From Lanzhou, you can drive to Xiahe (240km) and visit Labrang Monastery, one of the six most famous Tibetan Buddhist Monasteries.
• You can take bullet train from Lanzhou to Xining (2 hours) and  visit Kumbum Monastery, birth place of Tsong Khapa who founded the Gelukpa Sect (Yellow Hat) of Tibetan Buddhism.
