Introducing Songhua River
Harbin Songhua River, draining a sizable area of northeastern China, is the chief tributary of the Amur River, and is the 65th largest river in the world. Songhua River runs a total length of 1927 kilometers, when its longest tributary, the Nenjiang River, is included; the Nenjiang drains the North Manchurian Plain and the Nenjiang River grassland eco-region. Songhua River is the largest branch of Heilong River and the main water source of Northeast China.

What to expect at Songhua River

The lowland floodplain area of the Songhua Basin is a vast level expanse that has invited meandering of the river channels and also invited agricultural exploitation. The size of the catchment of Harbin Songhua River is approximately 1,444,000 square kilometres.

The Songhua Basin is a significant habitat area for the migrating Red-crowned Crane, as well as other rare crane species. Within Songhua River’s flowing area, the thick forests on the Daxinganling, Xiaoxinganling and Mount Changbaishan stretch as far as the eye can see. During winter, under the sub-zero temperature, there is a gorgeous sight called mists attached to trees or soft rime, which attracted tourists around the world.

Songhua River Sightseeing Ropeway
The Harbin Ropeway, or Songhua River Sightseeing Ropeway, starts from Tongjiang Square in the south and runs north to the Sun Island Scenic Area. It straddles the Songhua River and is a famous tourist route. The ropeway has a total span of 1156 meters. The midway bridge is more than 70 meters away from the river. Sits on it and overlooks the beautiful Songhua River. The waves and ripples are full of charm.

• Take bus No. 13, 21, 101, 103 or 204 to the river in Daoli district.
• Take bus No. 7, 64, 107, 108 or 109 to the river in Daowai district.
• Take bus No. 9, 56, 65 or 79 and get off at Youyigong Station. You will reach Songhua River Sightseeing Ropeway
