Xijiang Miao Village, also known as the One-Thousand-Family Miao Village, is the largest Miao ethnic village in China and is unparalleled around the world. What to expect at Xijiang Miao Village

Xijiang Miao Village is located by the valley and surrounded by overlapping mountains, with terraced fields rising along the slopes to the clouds and the Baishui (White Water) River flowing through and cutting the village into two. Miao hillside wooden stilted houses stand tier upon tier along the two banks to the mountain. Thick bamboo groves are dotting before and behind the houses. Beautiful maple leaves cover the villages on the top and at the bottom of the mountain.

The village is also featured by grand festivals and celebrations of Miao people. They have many traditional festivals all year round, such as Lusheng Festival, Sisters' Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, and the Harvest Celebration, during which the Miao people worship their ancestors and celebrate the autumn harvest. Travelers to Xijiang will get amazed at the elegant and glittering silver ornaments worn by Miao females during the holidays. Local songs and dances accompanied by the Lusheng (a traditional Miao instrument) will not fail to impress you, too.

How to get to Xijiang Miao Village

From Kaili
• Take bus No. 1 from Kaili Railway Station to Xijiang Town directly.
• Take bus No. 21 from Kaili South Railway Station to Xijiang Town.
• Take a direct bus from Kaili General Bus Station to Xijiang Town.

From Guiyang
• Take a bus from Guiyang East Bus Station to Kaili (2 hours). Then take a local bus to Xijiang Town.
• Take a train from Guiyang Station to Kaili (2.5 hours). Then take a local bus to Xijiang Town.

• Please wear comfortable walking shoes.
• It is not suggested to take much luggage as the county roads are rugged.
